We have production facilities located across the UK, which seek to play an active role in their respective communities. During the 2009-10 financial year, some of the activities in which we were involved included:
- Numerous school visits to our Lockerbie and Taw Valley creameries as part of ongoing educational programmes teaching children about the links between the countryside around them and the food on supermarket shelves. Members of staff from our Llandyrnog Creamery have also visited local schools to talk about the process of cheese making as well as welcoming work experience students onto the site.
- Taw Valley Creamery also hosted visits this year from Young Farmers Clubs and our own farmer Members as well as offering work experience to school students.
- The community shop at our Taw Valley Creamery is much appreciated and utilised locally - this is where members of the public can purchase the Creamery's products at factory prices.
- Many of our sites also sponsor local charities and organisations such as air ambulances, local hospitals and schools, sports clubs, cancer and other health charities. For example, our Crediton site donated more than £1,000 to local causes during the year. Many sites also donate in kind with cheese product as prizes for raffles or events.
- More than £10,500 was raised by individual employees for a wide range of charities, with many of the donations coming from colleagues within the company.
